Jardins Du Vatican Tickets

By Updated 12 min read

Jardins du Vatican tickets are not sold as a simple stand-alone entry on the official price list I rely on, so the safe route is a Vatican Museums ticket or a tour option that adds the gardens. A full Museums ticket costs 20 euros at the door, and a gardens minibus add-on exists on at least one bookable tour.

Jardins du Vatican tickets are a common search for French-speaking visitors, and the first thing to know is how the gardens fit into the ticket system. The price list I use from the Vatican Museums official site shows Museums tickets, reduced categories, the Scavi and Castel Gandolfo. It does not show a plain “gardens only” line. So the practical question is which ticket or tour gets you into the gardens, and how much it costs.

This page sorts that out. I cover what you can buy, the official prices in euros and dollars, the hours, the entrances, and how to avoid paying more than you need to. Everything below comes from official pages and the booking data in my notes, and I point you to the official site wherever prices or hours can change.

Jardins du Vatican Tickets Explained: What You Can Actually Buy

Jardins du Vatican tickets come down to one clear official product, the Vatican Museums entry ticket, with the gardens reached through tour options that add them. According to the official page, the Museums ticket covers the Museums and Sistine Chapel only on the day it is issued, and no refund is possible.

One bookable option in my notes spells out the gardens link. The Touristation listing (id 88442) includes a “Vatican Gardens Minibus Tour” as one of its selectable options. That is the only gardens add-on I can confirm in the tour data, so I won’t promise others.

Here is how I’d read the situation:

  • Museums ticket only: you see the galleries and the Sistine Chapel, but not the gardens.
  • Museums ticket plus gardens option: a tour or bundle that lists the gardens minibus in its options.
  • Gardens price: I can’t give a euro figure for the gardens, because my official sources don’t state one. Confirm it on the official site before you pay.

If you want to compare every route before choosing, I’d book Vatican tickets online from a page that lays the options side by side, then confirm the gardens option in the product description.

Can You Buy Vatican Gardens Tickets on Their Own?

A stand-alone Vatican Gardens ticket is something I can’t confirm from the official sources I rely on, so I would not build a plan around one. The official price page covers the full ticket, the reduced tickets, the school and student rates, the Castel Gandolfo ticket and the free-entry categories, and no separate gardens line appears among them.

That matters because many sellers use the word “gardens” in their titles. When you see a gardens ticket advertised, read the inclusions list. Check three things:

  1. Does it include the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel?
  2. Is the gardens part a minibus tour, a walking tour or something else?
  3. Is the gardens part a fixed feature or a selectable option?

The Touristation listing is a good example of the third point. Its inclusions say the gardens minibus applies “if option selected,” which means the default ticket leaves it out. I’d read that wording twice before paying.

For the wider picture of how ticket types differ, my guide to Vatican Museums tickets is the place to start, and the Vatican tickets hub lists every other ticket question I have answered.

How Much Do Vatican Museums Tickets Cost in Euros and Dollars?

Vatican Museums tickets cost 20 euros for a full entry at the door, or about $22 at the current reference rate. A skip-the-line slot booked on the official site adds a fee to the reduced tickets. The table below shows the official figures from the official price page, with dollar amounts converted at the ECB reference rate of 1.1165 dollars per euro on 2026-11-06.

Ticket Official price (EUR) Approx. USD
Full entry, no online booking 20.00 $22.33
Reduced entry, no online booking 10.00 $11.17
Reduced entry with “Skip the Line” booking 10.00 + 5.00 $16.75
School reduced ticket, no online booking 5.00 $5.58
School reduced ticket with “Skip the Line” 5.00 + 2.00 $7.82
Student reduced ticket, no online booking 10.00 $11.17
Student ticket with “Skip the Line” 10.00 + 5.00 $16.75
Papal Palace and Secret Garden of Castel Gandolfo 12.00 $13.40

These are the latest figures published as of November 2026, and the museums can change them. Check the official ticket portal before you buy.

Who gets a reduced price?

The reduced Vatican ticket price applies to certain visitors, and the student reduction covers students up to and including 25 years old who hold a document from their school or university confirming enrolment for the current year. If you buy a reduced ticket without being entitled to it, you must buy a new full-price ticket, and the reduced one is cancelled with no refund.

Who gets in free?

Free entry to the Vatican Museums is listed by the official page for the last Sunday of the month, subject to the opening calendar, and for children under 7. Certain heritage professionals qualify too, and so do visitors with a certified invalidity of at least 67 percent, who can bring a companion if they are not self-sufficient. Free tickets for disabled visitors are issued at the desks in the entrance hall and cannot be booked online.

Is It Worth Booking Skip-the-Line Instead of Buying at the Door?

Skip-the-line booking is what I would choose in most cases, since the extra cost is small next to the time you can lose in a queue. The official fee on reduced tickets is 5 euros, and the tours in my notes start at about $32 to $40 for entry-only products.

Here is how the main entry-only options compare on the data I have:

  • Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel entrance ticket: $36.21, rated 4.48 from 160,009 reviews, with a dedicated entrance and an audioguide desk inside.
  • The Tours And Tours skip-the-line ticket: $32.31, rated 4.23 from 13,313 reviews, with a meeting point on Via Germanico 8 and a 15-minute early arrival.
  • The Touristation skip-the-line ticket: $40.11, rated 4.23 from 8,954 reviews, and the one with the gardens minibus as an option.

I’d pick one of the three below if you want the gardens in the plan. Check the option list on the Touristation product before you pay.

Treat these as affiliate links to third-party sellers. We are an independent guide and not the official ticket office, and the product page is the final word on what each ticket includes.

One traveler put the case for timed entry bluntly:

“The only way to visit the Vatican Museums are with a skip the line ticket, because you will spend around 4h in the museum if you want to enjoy it properly, but if you don't have a skip the line ticket, add at least 2-3 hours of waiting in line. A line that is literally at least 100 m long”

Which Jardins du Vatican Tickets and Tours Fit Your Visit?

Jardins du Vatican tours suit you if you want a guide, while an entry ticket suits you if you want freedom, with the gardens added only where a listing offers them. Your best pick depends on how much context you want and how much time you have.

The guided option in my notes is the Gray Line I Love Rome tour at $109.87 (id 9241). It lasts 3 to 3.5 hours, caps the group at 20 people, includes the Museums ticket and official headsets, and covers the Raphael Rooms and the School of Athens. It has a 4.32 rating from 10,589 reviews. It lists no exclusions, but it doesn’t mention the gardens, so don’t book it for that.

The Inside Out Italy ticket (id 478473) costs $53.48, runs 2.5 to 3 hours, and includes a host who escorts you from Via Sebastiano Veniero 74 to the entrance. It excludes a tour guide, so it is an escorted entry, not a lecture.

My advice is simple. First-timers who want the Sistine Chapel explained should take the guided tour. Repeat visitors who want the gardens as well should search for a ticket that lists the minibus tour in its options.

Jardins du Vatican Tickets Versus Castel Gandolfo’s Secret Garden

The Castel Gandolfo Secret Garden is a separate site with its own 12 euro ticket, so it cannot stand in for the gardens inside Vatican City. The official price page shows “Papal Palace and Secret Garden of Castel Gandolfo” at 12.00 euros, which is about $13.40 at the reference rate above.

This is a common mix-up when people search in French or English. Vatican City itself is tiny. Wikidata gives its area as 0.44 km², so the gardens sit inside a very small state. Castel Gandolfo is outside it, so a ticket there does not take you into the Vatican Gardens.

Two other official tickets are worth knowing about if you are comparing sites:

  • Scavi (excavations): the Scavi office states 13 euros per person, which includes the guide contribution, with no reductions. That is about $14.51.
  • Castel Sant’Angelo: the Crown Tours entry ticket with a digital audioguide (id 476598) costs $25.07 and has a 4.57 rating from 9,341 reviews. It is a separate monument across the river, not part of the Vatican.

Hours, Entrances and Where to Meet

Vatican Museums hours run from 8 am to 8 pm Monday to Saturday, with Sunday closed and the gardens subject to their own rules. The place data I use gives the same 8 am to 8 pm window for every weekday and Saturday, and Saint Peter’s Basilica as open daily from 7 am to 7:10 pm. Hours change with closures and religious events, so confirm them in the official museum calendar.

The tour data tells you where to go. For the entry ticket (id 62214), walk to the Vatican Museums entrance on Viale Vaticano, use the dedicated GetYourGuide entrance, show a paper or mobile voucher, and then scan at the box office labelled CASSA ONLINE E GRUPPI after security. Do not arrive outside your slot.

For other products, the meeting point differs: Via Germanico 8, Via Sebastiano Veniero 74, or Piazza del Risorgimento in front of Bar L’Ottagono. Read your voucher, because turning up at the wrong address is the easiest way to lose a slot.

One practical note on timing: a late afternoon arrival is risky. A reviewer described reaching the Museums near 17:00 without a booking, waiting 30 to 40 minutes for tickets and then rushing through the galleries before closing.

“Truly amazing. The photos you see online don’t do the place justice. Just standing in the halls admiring some of Ancient Greek/Ancient Rome/renaissance/baroque masterpieces is beyond words. Definitely worth going too. Getting tickets online is a nightmare, so we turned up at roughly 17:00 and waited for 30/40mims to get tickets. We managed to get round the gallaries before closure, but it was a bit of rush.”

Which Tickets Are Safe to Buy Online?

Safe Vatican tickets online come from tickets.museivaticani.va, the only official site for Museums tickets, and the museums warn about look-alike domains. Their official notice says similar-looking sites may charge significantly higher prices.

I use a simple rule. If you buy from the official portal, you pay the official price. If you buy from a reseller, you pay for the extras they add, such as an escort, an audioguide, a gardens option or a flexible meeting point. Both are legitimate when you know which one you are buying.

A few checks help:

  1. Confirm the seller’s name and what is included before you pay.
  2. Compare the price against the official 20 euro full ticket, about $22.
  3. Keep the voucher on your phone and a paper copy, as the tours I list accept both.
  4. Remember the official ticket is non-refundable.

If you want to see the main choices in one place, you can compare Vatican tickets and then choose the product that matches your plan. For a sister page on the same topic in French, see my guide to palais du Vatican tickets, and for the wider question of buying in the city, read where to buy tickets for a Vatican City visit.

What Do the French Ticket Searches Really Mean?

French Vatican ticket searches usually mean the Museums ticket when people type billet or ticket, so “musée”, “musées” and “palais” all lead to the same family of products. Official names are in English and Italian, yet the tickets are identical.

If you search in French, these pages cover the neighboring questions:

I keep these pages separate so each answers one version of the question. None of them replaces the official price page.

Jardins du Vatican Tickets by the Numbers

Vatican City facts start with its rank as the smallest country by area, a scale that explains why the gardens are reached through the Museums side of the visit. These figures come from Wikidata, with what each means for you.

  • Area: 0.44 km². Everything you want to see sits inside a compact state.
  • Founded: 1929-02-11. The modern state dates from the Lateran Treaty, which is why it runs its own rules and tickets.
  • Heritage status: World Heritage Site. The whole city-state is protected, so access rules are strict.
  • Population: 949 in 2024. Visitors far outnumber residents on a busy day.
  • Currency: euro. Prices on the official page are in euros, so convert before you compare.
  • Official languages: Italian and Latin. Expect signs and forms in Italian first.

Plan Your Jardins du Vatican Tickets Visit

Your Jardins du Vatican tickets plan should begin with a timed Museums ticket, adding the gardens only if the chosen product lists them. Doing it this way keeps things simple and stops you paying for something you can’t use.

Here is my short checklist:

  1. Decide whether you want a guide. The guided tour is $109.87, and the entry tickets run from about $32 to $53.
  2. Pick a date that is not a Sunday, unless you are aiming for the last-Sunday free entry and can accept the crowds.
  3. Read the product’s inclusions for a gardens minibus line.
  4. Arrive inside your slot, with ID if you hold a reduced ticket.
  5. Check prices and closures on the official site on the day you book.

When you are ready, Vatican tickets on our homepage show the main skip-the-line choices together. Because I can’t verify a euro price for the gardens from official sources, I’d treat any exact gardens figure with care until you see it on the seller’s page and the official site.

Frequently asked questions

Can I visit the Vatican without tickets?

St. Peter's Basilica is described as free of charge on the tour listings in my notes, although access is not guaranteed and can change with crowd control. The Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel need a ticket, except on the free-entry days and categories the museums publish.

Which Vatican tickets should I choose?

Choose by what you want to see. A Museums and Sistine Chapel entry ticket suits independent visitors, a guided tour suits first-timers who want context, and an option with a gardens minibus suits anyone who wants the gardens included.

Is the Vatican open on Sunday?

The Vatican Museums are shown as closed on Sundays, with Monday to Saturday hours of 8 am to 8 pm in the place data I use. The official site lists free entry on the last Sunday of the month, subject to its opening calendar, so check that calendar first.

Are Vatican Museums tickets refundable?

No. The official price page states that tickets cannot be refunded, and the entry ticket is valid only on the day it is issued. Pick your date carefully before you pay.

Is there a ticket for the Pope's summer gardens?

The official price page lists a separate full ticket of 12 euros for the Papal Palace and Secret Garden of Castel Gandolfo. That is a different site from the gardens inside Vatican City.
