Entradas Vaticano

By Updated 12 min read

Entradas vaticano is the Spanish search for Vatican tickets, and in practice it means an entry ticket to the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel, which is a separate visit from free St. Peter's Basilica. You can book through the official museums site or through a partner such as GetYourGuide, where timed skip-the-line entry starts around $32.

Entradas vaticano is what Spanish speakers type when they want to get into the Vatican, and the answer depends on which part of it you mean. In practice most people need an entry ticket to the Vatican Museums, which includes the Sistine Chapel. St. Peter’s Basilica is a different queue and a different story. I wrote this page in English for travelers who searched in Spanish, so you can compare what the ticket types really include before you pay.

My advice in one line: pick a date, book a timed slot, and decide whether you want to walk alone with an audio guide or follow a guide. Everything below helps you make that choice.

What Does Entradas Vaticano Actually Cover?

Entradas Vaticano translates as “Vatican tickets”, and the one most visitors are after is the ticket for the Vatican Museums. The official site names the Sistine Chapel, Raphael’s Rooms, the Borgia Apartment and the Pinacoteca among the places you can see, so one museum entry opens a very large route (Vatican Museums official website).

Vatican City itself is a tiny state (see my Vatican overview for the background). Wikidata gives its area as 0.44 km², and it sits inside Rome (Wikidata). Still, the ticket you buy is not for “the Vatican” as a whole. It is for one set of museums, and the basilica, the dome and the Necropolis each work differently.

Here is how I sort the words you will see:

  • Museum entry ticket: timed entry to the museums and the Sistine Chapel.
  • Skip-the-line ticket: the same entry through a partner’s reserved entrance.
  • Guided tour: the entry plus a guide, often with a basilica option.
  • Basilica visit: free to walk in, with its own security line.

If you only remember one thing, remember that the basilica is not inside your museum ticket.

Where Can You Get Entradas Vaticano Safely?

Entradas Vaticano are sold safely on the official Vatican Museums website or by an authorized partner offering timed entry. One rule keeps you safe: buy only from a seller that names the Vatican Museums, shows a date and a slot, and gives you a voucher you can scan.

The official site is where you confirm prices, hours and temporary closures, so open it before you book anything (opening hours and closures). Prices and hours change, and I would rather send you to the source than guess a number.

Partners add convenience. On GetYourGuide, for example, one entry ticket sends you to a dedicated entrance, and you pick up an audio guide at a dedicated desk inside the museums. The meeting instructions are clear: go to the entrance on Viale Vaticano, show your ticket to security, then scan it at the box office marked CASSA ONLINE E GRUPPI.

If you want to see every ticket type side by side, start with the ticket options here and then come back to compare details.

How do you spot a bad listing?

A bad listing is easy to spot if you check three things. A real one names the museums, shows a time slot and lists what is excluded. If any of these is missing, I would not book it.

Rome: Vatican Museums & Sistine Chapel Skip-The-Line TicketSkip the ticket line: Rome: Vatican Museums & Sistine Chapel Skip-The-Line Ticket, from $32

Does the Museum Ticket Include the Sistine Chapel?

The museum ticket includes the Sistine Chapel, because the Chapel is part of the museums. The galleries come first and the Chapel sits near the end of the route, so arriving early in your slot matters.

Partner listings say the same thing. The standard entry ticket I recommend most often lists “Michelangelo’s fresco The Creation of Adam in the Sistine Chapel” among its highlights, and the skip-the-line options spell out Sistine Chapel access as an inclusion.

What the museum ticket does not include is St. Peter’s Basilica. The partner listing says so directly: the Basilica is free of charge, but access is not guaranteed and may vary with crowd control. The dome is also excluded and needs its own booking.

For a deeper look at the second entrance, read my guide on entradas al vaticano, which covers the same ticket question from the other angle.

Which Entradas Vaticano Option Fits Your Visit?

The best entradas vaticano option depends on how much explanation you want. Entry-only tickets cost least and leave you to set your own pace, while guided tours cost more and add context and sometimes the basilica. The table below uses current partner prices in US dollars, so confirm them at checkout.

Option Price from Rating Includes Best for
Rome: Vatican Museums & Sistine Chapel Skip-The-Line Ticket $32.31 4.23 Fast entry, host to the entrance Budget travelers
Vatican: Museums & Sistine Chapel Entrance Ticket $36.21 4.48 Dedicated entrance, audio guide if selected Self-guided visits
Vatican Museums & Sistine Chapel Skip-the-Line Entry Ticket $53.48 4.42 Host who assists on arrival First-timers who want help
Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel & St. Peter’s Basilica Tour $60.17 4.27 Fast-track entry, walking tour Guided visits
Rome: Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel & Basilica Tour $71.31 4.65 Licensed guide, audio headsets Guided visits with a basilica option

My pick for most people is the entry ticket with an audio guide, because it keeps the cost low and the pace yours. If you are short on time, a guided tour handles the route for you.

I’d book a slot before you fly. Slots in busy months fill up, and a booked time removes the biggest source of stress.

What Is the Difference Between Entry-Only and Guided Tickets?

Entry-only and guided tickets differ in one way: the first gets you in and leaves you alone, while the second adds a guide who explains what you are seeing. The entry ticket excludes a guided tour, so you rely on an audio guide or your own reading.

Travelers’ reviews show the trade-off well. Reviewers of the entry ticket praise timed entry and the audio guide, but some say clearer directions to the right queue would help. One reviewer put it simply:

“value for money. I am glad that I choose this option. really helpful. thank you”
Sukanta, Ireland, 2026-11 · GetYourGuide review about Vatican: Museums & Sistine Chapel Entrance Ticket

Guided tours get praise for the guides instead. Reviewers of the guided basilica tour call the guide knowledgeable and the skip-the-line access useful, but several wish the basilica part were explained more clearly. Read that detail before you book, because it decides whether the basilica is a guided stop or a free visit on your own.

Hosted entry tickets sit in the middle. The host helps you check in and walks you to the entrance, but the listing says support often ends at the door, and the tour guide is excluded.

One more point for families. A reviewer whose child uses a wheelchair skipped the guided option and used an audio guide instead, and still saw most of the sights. If you need step-free access, ask the seller or the official site before you book.

Can Students Get a Discount on Entradas Vaticano?

A student discount on entradas vaticano exists: students up to and including 25 years of age can buy a reduced ticket, provided they hold a document from their school or university that confirms enrollment for the current year (official student rules).

The warning matters. If you buy a reduced ticket without the right to it, you must buy a new ticket at the full rate, and the reduced ticket is cancelled and cannot be refunded. Carry your proof, and check the official page for the other reduced categories.

I would not rely on a partner listing for discounts unless it says so clearly. Partner entry tickets usually have one price, so a student discount is something to confirm on the official site first.

Is St. Peter’s Basilica Free, and Do You Need Entradas Vaticano for It?

St. Peter’s Basilica is free for the main visit, so it needs no ticket and a museum ticket does not cover it. It has its own security line, which makes it a separate stop on the same day or another day.

Opening times help you plan. Google Maps lists the Basilica as open daily from 7 am to 7:10 pm, so it is open on Sunday when the museums are closed (Maps listing). Hours can change for ceremonies, so confirm them on the Basilica website.

One reviewer shared a tip I find realistic:

“Do not miss this place for a FREE location! This is the most beautiful church I've ever been to. Once your through security and the main doors, you are truly hit by the size and artwork. We got there 645am and already there's a line but got in very quickly. If your just there for free visit, you can see most of it in 40mins. Pay extra for the other locations.”
Crimsonpig101 · Google Maps review about Saint Peter’s Basilica

Arriving early helps, and a short free visit is possible if you only want the interior. Extras such as the dome are sold separately (more in my notes on entradas al Vaticano), and one guided option offers dome access with an elevator to the terrace on select options.

Can You Buy Entradas Vaticano on the Same Day?

Same-day entradas vaticano can be bought, but I would not plan around it. You risk a wait and a rushed visit, and slots can sell out in busy periods.

A reviewer who turned up around 5 pm waited 30 to 40 minutes for tickets and then rushed through the galleries before closing:

“Truly amazing. The photos you see online don’t do the place justice. Just standing in the halls admiring some of Ancient Greek/Ancient Rome/renaissance/baroque masterpieces is beyond words. Definitely worth going too. Getting tickets online is a nightmare, so we turned up at roughly 17:00 and waited for 30/40mims to get tickets. We managed to get round the gallaries before closure, but it was a bit of rush.”
Simmons · Google Maps review about Vatican Museums

That story is the problem in one line. The museums close early for new entries, so a late arrival cuts your visit short. If your schedule is fixed, a booked slot is the safer choice.

If you do arrive without a booking, go early in the morning, bring patience and have a backup plan, such as a partner ticket for a later slot. The partner tickets also state that you must not arrive outside your assigned time slot, and one says latecomers are not guaranteed skip-the-line entry and that you should arrive 15 minutes before the starting time.

Which Days and Hours Matter When You Choose Entradas Vaticano?

Entradas Vaticano days and hours point to Monday to Saturday for the museums, because Google Maps shows the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel as closed on Sunday and open from 8 am to 8 pm on the other days (Maps listing). Always check the official hours page for exceptions and temporary closures.

Here is how I would lay out a day:

  1. Book an early slot for the museums so the Sistine Chapel is not a closing-time rush.
  2. Allow 2.5 to 3 hours for an entry ticket with a host, which matches the durations in the partner listings.
  3. Visit the basilica afterward or on another day, since it has a separate line.
  4. Eat nearby. Ristorante Pizzeria Castello on Via delle Fornaci has a 4.7 rating from 18,643 reviews and opens 11 am to 11 pm every day.

Plan your start around the meeting point too. Some partner offices are a short walk from the museums, such as one on Via Mocenigo about two minutes away, and another reachable from the Ottaviano metro stop on Line A in about 10 minutes. St. Peter’s Square is not the meeting point for that one.

Vatican City by the Numbers

Vatican City by the numbers gives you a few figures to picture the place you are about to enter, and the About Vatican City hub has more. These come from Wikidata, and each one links to its source (Vatican City on Wikidata).

Wikipedia describes Vatican City as the smallest country by area and the least populous, and it lists the Sistine Chapel and Vatican Museums among its main sites (Wikipedia).

Your Entradas Vaticano Plan in Short

Your entradas vaticano plan is short. Decide whether you want a self-guided visit or a guide, book a timed slot on a Monday to Saturday, and confirm the price and hours on the official site. Then add the basilica as a free second stop, not as part of the museum ticket.

If you want the broader picture first, my Vatican guide and the About Vatican City hub cover the history and the main sites. When you are ready to choose, see every ticket type side by side and match one to your day.

One last reminder: this is an independent guide, not the official ticket office. I link to the official pages for rules and prices, and I suggest partner tickets only where the extras save you time.

Frequently asked questions

¿Dónde conseguir entradas para el Vaticano?

You can book on the official Vatican Museums website or through an authorized partner such as GetYourGuide. Always check that your voucher names the Vatican Museums and shows a date and time slot. Prices and rules change, so confirm them on the official site before you pay.

¿Las entradas a los Museos Vaticanos incluyen la Capilla Sixtina?

Yes. The Sistine Chapel is one of the museums on the official list, and the standard museum entry ticket covers it. The Chapel sits at the end of the route, so plan your time to reach it before closing.

¿Se puede comprar la entrada al Vaticano el mismo día?

It is possible, but it is a gamble. One reviewer arrived around 5 pm, waited 30 to 40 minutes for tickets and had to rush the galleries before closing. A booked time slot removes that risk.

¿Qué días no ir al Vaticano?

Skip Sunday if you want the museums and the Sistine Chapel, because Google Maps lists both as closed that day. The Museums are open Monday to Saturday from 8 am to 8 pm. Check the official page for temporary closures before you go.

¿Dónde es mejor comprar las entradas al Vaticano?

Buy from the official site if you want the base ticket, or from a partner if you want bundled extras such as an audio guide, a host or a guide. Compare what each listing includes rather than only the price.

¿Qué día es gratis la Capilla Sixtina?

I can't confirm a free day from the sources I use, so check the official Vatican Museums calendar. What is always free is St. Peter's Basilica, which is a separate entrance and does not include the museums.

Keep planning your visit
